You Can Make a Difference
Join us at Building Peaceful Bridges to help save, protect, and rebuild the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people. There are many ways you can help! Everyone has the power to make a difference in the lives of refugees.
How? Volunteer!
There are Many Ways.
You can make a difference in the life of a refugee family. You can do so in multiple ways: help create a new living space by donating furniture and household items; assist and support families in reducing initial financial burdens; provide warm clothes for our cold Chicago winters. You can also help them in day-to-day life activities. Introduce them to life in America: shopping, medical services, transportation, school services, and learning the English language. Come join us; it is all about building bridges!
Ultimately, refugees give back to their communities and make our country stronger. Ahlam and Ann’s story is a perfect example of the power of the mentor-mentee relationship. They met in 2009 when Ann began assisting Ahlam’s family. Ann’s family provided supplemental financial aid, assisted in integrating into American society, shared holidays together, provided educational advice, and ultimately became family.
Program Impact
An objective of our programs with refugees is to make America a forever country for their families. We help create new homes by introducing families to local resources, food, and household items. We help them to prepare for the U.S. citizenship test. They are introduced to new friends and networking opportunities. We assist them in evaluating their skill sets in order to seek employment and career opportunities.
